UWMC Collegiana Hospitality House

The Collegiana is affiliated with the University of Washington's (huge) medical center, providing housing for temporary stays. So it is not a full-service hotel, but otherwise provides everything you would need (and sometimes more). this is the usual location for funded participants.

• The rooms are large, many have room for three people.
• Free wifi. (Handout below has credentials.)
• Communal kitchens on each floor - perfect for simple breakfasts.
• Very close to campus and the university business district.
• Parking nearby can be arranged in advance.
• 4311 12th Ave. N.E., Seattle

The building is staffed only during the day, and not at all on Sunday. However, you can pickup your room keycard (which also opens the front door) 24 hours a day from the security post at another university building about a block away. See all the details in the handout describing procedures.

Transportation

You are unlikely to need a rental car once at the UW campus, everything is close-by and it is a walker's paradise.

For air travel, the airport is Seattle-Tacoma International, the code is SEA. For funded travel, international travelers will need to fly on US flag carriers.

Here are some options to get to the university area from the airport:

• A-ABC Transportation offers a flat rate ($30-35 typically, before tip) for door-to-door car service. They are a private car service (though they don't have the nicest fleet of cars) and are less expensive than a cab. Call for a reservation.

• Taxis from the airport cost about $40 (before tip) and can be found by following the signs in the airport.

• Shuttle Express picks up passengers at the inner curb on the third floor of the Airport Garage. Call to make a reservation.

• There is light-rail departing from the airport, which you could ride into downtown Seattle. At the Pioneer Square Tunnel Station you can transfer to a #71, #72, #73 bus going in the "University District" direction (north). You would get off the bus on University Way at N 43rd and walk 3 or 4 blocks (west) to the Collegiana, or other stops would be close to other destinations. You could also take a taxi directly from downtown, it is about a 5 mile trip. Google Maps

Eating & Shopping

University Way ("The Ave") from about NE 41st up to about NE 50th is the main business district.

Campus:

• Orin's Place in PACCAR Hall has limited food service in the lobby, with hours and service levels varying depending on if classes are in session or not.

• McMahon Hall is just north of the math department and has several places to get food.

Breakfast:

• Cafe on the Ave - full hot breafast, free wifi, large tables

• Neo Cafe - breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, juice, limited electrical outlets

Lunch/Dinner:

• Shultzy's Sausage - pub fare and a good beer selection

• Thai 65 - good Thai food, reasonably priced

• Thai Tom - even beter (and hotter) Thai food, reasonably priced, very busy hence NOT SUITED for large groups

• Araya - extremely good vegan Thai food; closes a bit early (9 PM weeknights)

• Cedars - great falafel (and other middle eastern food), reasonably priced

• Dick's ("Wallingford" location) - iconic Seattle drive-in, no seating, about a mile west on 45th (other side of I-5)

• Vietnamese food seems to be everywhere on The Ave, much of it decent.
