Building Gcc Releases on Sage.math
General Info
Ubuntu 8.04LTS installs 64 bit libs into /lib and 32 bit libs into /libs32 unlike the standard which suggests 64 bit libs in /lib64 and 32 bit libs in /lib. That leads to build failures of stock gcc releases. http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2006-06/msg00071.html offers a solution:
Those "manual fixes" to the sources are quite obvious though, the "target Makefile fragment", 'gcc/config/i386/t-linux64', has in it : MULTILIB_OPTIONS = m64/m32 MULTILIB_DIRNAMES = 64 32 MULTILIB_OSDIRNAMES = ../lib64 ../lib and changing this into : MULTILIB_OPTIONS = m64/m32 MULTILIB_DIRNAMES = 64 32 MULTILIB_OSDIRNAMES = ../lib ../lib32
Please ping mabshoff in IRC or per email if you need any other gcc compiler, i.e. additional Fortran compilers or specific release.
