Sage at the joint meetings in Boston, 2012

We are planning to have a booth this year. We'll be opposite the WeBWorK booth, and will probably share some resources, at the very least bodies for the booth.

The meeting is January 4-7, 2012.

AMS website for the meeting: http://jointmathematicsmeetings.org/jmm

People who will be at the meetings and can help with the booth:

  • Karl-Dieter Crisman (can help some with setup We, and most of the day Th, Fr, Sa)
    • I will have a projector and screen!
  • Benjamin Jones (can help Thurs, Fri, or Sat morning)
  • Marshall Hampton (some afternoons)
  • William Stein (I'm running a short course starting on Jan 2...; I will help with the booth when I can.): I can *also* have a projector, but I don't have a screen. I have the big Sage Banner.
  • Eva Curry (I can do a couple shifts on any of W, Th, F, or Sa (so far))
  • Alyson Deines
  • Jennifer Balakrishnan

The exhibit hours are probably

  • 12:15-5:30 We
  • 9:30-5:30 Th
  • 9:30-5:30 Fr
  • 9:00-12:00 Sa

Notes from the Last Meeting for this meeting

Notes, ideas, reminders for the next iteration, in no particular order.

  • Pay for a small table (small was less of a barrier, but barely sufficient)
  • Pay for two chairs (even though expensive)
  • Have 3d glasses---they drew lots of people to the table and into conversation.
  • Business cards were popular and ran out, these are critical
  • Take a projector to have a large screen
  • Or arrange for a local to bring a flat-panel screen (with stand)
  • Hooks or string for banner
  • Decorations (helium balloons, bright candy, etc): NOTE: I just found that helium baloons are illegal in the convention center.
  • Stickers (slide into name-badge, then affix at home)
  • Sage-related textbooks
  • Have a 5-step Quickstart guide to using Sage:
    1. Log into sagenb
    2. Find a quick-start published worksheet
    3. Evaluate a cell
    4. Create a new cell and evaluate 1+1
    5. Create a new cell and evaluate a cool plot
    6. Create a new cell and calculate rref of a matrix
  • Advertise ask.sagemath.org (on business card?)
    • Info: sagemath.org
    • Use: sagenb.org
    • Questions? ask.sagemath.org
