UWMC Collegiana Hospitality House
The Collegiana is affiliated with the University of Washington's (huge) medical center, providing housing for temporary stays. So it is not a full-service hotel, but otherwise provides everything you would need (and sometimes more). this is the usual location for funded participants.

 * The rooms are large, many have room for three people. Partitions separate the beds and provide individual wardrobes and study desks. Mini-refrigerators in rooms. Large bathrooms.
 * Free wifi. (Handout below has credentials.)
 * Communal kitchens on each floor - perfect for simple breakfasts.
 * Very close to campus and the university business district.
 * Parking nearby can be arranged in advance.
 * 4311 12th Ave. N.E., Seattle

The building is staffed only during the day, and not at all on Sunday. However, you can pickup your room keycard (which also opens the front door) 24 hours a day from the security post at another university building about a block away. See all the details in the handout describing procedures.

Transportation
You are unlikely to need a rental car once at the UW campus, everything is close-by and it is a walker's paradise.

For air travel, the airport is Seattle-Tacoma International, the code is SEA. For funded travel, international travelers will need to fly on US flag carriers.

Here are some options to get to the university area from the airport:

 * A-ABC Transportation offers a flat rate ($30-35 typically, before tip) for door-to-door car service. They are a private car service (though they don't have the nicest fleet of cars) and are less expensive than a cab. Call for a reservation.
 * Taxis from the airport cost about $40 (before tip) and can be found by following the signs in the airport.
 * Shuttle Express picks up passengers at the inner curb on the third floor of the Airport Garage. Call to make a reservation.
 * There is light-rail departing from the airport, which you could ride into downtown Seattle. At the Pioneer Square Tunnel Station you can transfer to a #71, #72, #73 bus going in the "University District" direction (north). You would get off the bus on University Way at N 43rd and walk 3 or 4 blocks (west) to the Collegiana, or other stops would be close to other destinations. (The transfer is not free unless you use an Orca card. One can buy the card and load money onto it at the airport light rail station.) You could also take a taxi directly from downtown, it is about a 5 mile trip. == Navigating Sea-Tac Airport ==

Sea-Tac Airport Maps

Generally, Sea-Tac airport is numbered from south to north - concourses, baggage claim carousels, doors, skybridges, but not parking garage aisles. South is to your right if you stand with your back to a baggage claim carousel and look towards the arrival pick-up roadway or parking garage outside, north is to your left.

Meeting at Sea-Tac: there is an atrium area at the far south end of the terminal, on the same level as baggage claim. This might be a relaxing place to meet, though not centrally located, and at the extreme other end from the light-rail station. It is near where Concourse A lets out (but at the bottom of the escalators), near Door 00 (where scheduled buses depart).

Ground transportation at Sea-Tac: to get to most ground transportation (but not light rail) you will need to go up from baggage claim to a skybridge, over the roadway, and then down a level or two (or three) within the periphery of the parking garage. Parking, rental car and hotel vehicles are closest to the edge of the garage, and taxis and shuttles are more interior to the garage. Public buses and regional (scheduled) buses depart from the very southern end of the terminal (city buses out Door 2, regional shuttles out Door 00). For the light-rail station, cross skybridge 6 (at the far north end of the terminal) and follow the walkway along the northern border of the parking garage.

Parking
 * Parking at Collegiana needs to be arranged in advance, especially if arriving after-hours.

 * Hotel Deca charges 15 dollars for daily parking.

 * For daily parking on campus:
   * There is an underground parking garage in the SW corner of campus just beyond the Gate 5 off the intersection of NE 40th St and 15th Ave NE
   * There is a parking garage in the NE corner of campus near Padelford Hall (mathematics department, which may not be the site of Sage Days activities) which can be found by asking for directions at Gate 3 accessed from the intersection of 25th Ave NE and Pend Oreille Road.
   * Weekday parking close to campus is intentionally expensive ($15/day). The parking lots just east of Montlake Boulevard are cheaper (5 dollars?), but require a serious walk up many stairs onto campus.

Eating & Shopping
Some options for food, etc. close-by. Please add more!

University Way ("The Ave") from about NE 41st up to about NE 50th is the main business district.

Campus:
 * Orin's Place in PACCAR Hall has limited food service in the lobby, with hours and service levels varying depending on if classes are in session or not.
 * McMahon Hall is just north of the math department and has several places to get food.
 * Suzzallo Library has a cafe off the lobby (open until about 3 PM?). East side of Red Square.
 * Oddegard Undergraduate Library has several dining options in the basement. Enter from the south side at the bottom of the stairs from the west exit of Red Square.
