Biopython is a collection of python modules for doing bioinformatics. It is under active development, with new releases coming out about twice a year. Some of the capabilities of biopython include: parsing common file formats such as GenBank, FASTA, and Clustalw, interfacing with internet databases such as PubMed, SwissProt and GenBank, and manipulating sequences (for example, translating a DNA string into the corresponding amino acids).
